An Insight into lower limb biomechanics and how it affects injuries! This week's topic - lower limb mechanics and overprontation - an insightWhat is Pronation? : The normal function that occurs when the foot rolls inward toward the midline of the body. What is Overpronation? : The postural deviation where the foot tolls to far inward for normal function and causes issues in the calves and lower legs.Prehabilitation insight: Overpronation over time, can lead to inflexibility of the calf muscles and the Achilles tendon, which in turn leaves individuals more susceptible to common foot and ankle complex injuries including muscle strains and ligament sprains.A definition for interest:In 1947, the Posture committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons defined posture as: ‘‘the arrangement of body parts in a state of balance, that protects the supporting structures of the body against injury or progressive deformity''
